Horrorscension is an instrumental outing where the guitar and drums ain't no bass here do all the talking. I can only hope it'll throw something interesting at me, as a composer and music nerd. If you like Behold The Arctopus, you horrorsceension also like: To be fair, the drumming and guitar-work showcase a great deal of talent.

Streaming and Download help. Sadly, that is not the case for this album. Weasel Walter, of The Flying Luttenbachers fame, is without a doubt a very technically proficient drummer, but it's a moot point when everything he plays is so goddamn grating.

They could have cut it in half to no loss. The point I'm trying to make here is that no matter gehold you try to defend "out there" music like this by attaching terms like "technicality" or "bizarre" to it, it still doesn't excuse the poorly constructed musical ideas as well as the rather annoying execution.

Hope to hear more soon! Horrorscension definitely feels like another Behold the Arctopus album, except stripped of horrorscensin single element that made Skullgrid enjoyable, leaving only arctpous hollow shell of soulless tech wankery. The best way to approach this album is to think of it as an atmospheric piece and, though I can't prove this, I think that's what the band intended.

Behold The Arctopus play instrumental music inspired by both metal and 20th century classical music. Viewing this through the lens of "interesting lab work", which would earn it a hugely reduced score beohld - it's still not any good.

I've heard avant-garde bands play much better music than this, particularly in the form of Thy Catafalque. There is nothing on here besides bland, mindless tech death wankery, and almost never is there a change in pace, the usage of dynamics, nothing on here that makes the music actually enjoyable. Like some nightmarish labyrinth, most of the chaotic ideas here lead absolutely nowhere, and a noxious atmosphere of calculated disorder saturates every minute of the album.
